Hola Family, Friends & Book Worms
Thank you Martin for your reply. Yes, I have been slowly refining the hair styles of the female spiders, hopefully making them look better. A friend once emailed me asking what those “smoke stacks” represented on the tops of their heads — and then I knew I needed to start doing a better job with their hair styles.
The real change actually has to do with their mouths. I’d always left them white and just colored in their tongues. I had hesitated for a while doing what other cartoonists do ( and what I regularly do with the Spaghetti characters ) which is to blacken in their mouths’ interiors. I worried that since they are already varying shades of grey, using the black for their mouths would make things too dark, maybe too mushy looking. Recently I found a cartoon book that also included a burgundy color for the interior gum areas. I tried it out, but didn’t like it. So, for now, I am sticking with a black interior and a red tongue. I think it looks better.
And thanks so much, Martin, for all of your encouragement. You and Miriam are both extremely important to me, especially for how much time, support and attention you both offered me in my early years. Miss you both.
Hope everyone’s having a great Satuday.
And thanks to my sister for making an awesome arroz con pollo today for our dinner. Dad helped too! It was fantastic.
Until mañana . . .
Bring on the spiders!
