Hola Night Owls & Early Birds
COUNTDOWN #1
Technically, I think 365 cartoons was yesterday — but who’s counting, right?
So I don’t forget — HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!!!
I say this now, because tomorrow I am taking a day off. After considering the wise counsel of friends & family (they know me to be the stubborn type) I’ve decided to end my cartoon-a-day challenge. It was an enormous task, one that started off as a 90-cartoons in 90-days, and just kept going. Mostly I didn’t want to stop out of fear that I would lose my momentum and grind to a halt. Then I saw the steady progress I was making and really didn’t want to stop.
But, I realized a challenge should have a finishing point, to let the full experience stand alone.
So what does this mean? Well, for one thing, I’m going on vacation. For a day. To visit sunny Salinas.
Oh, wait a minute, I live in Salinas.
What I mean to say is that I will be sending out cartoons every other day. Probably Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays or Sundays. I’ve been missing some important activities during the week that I want to start regularly attending again.
I also would like to start doing more graphic novel work — comic books — another love from my childhood. One thought was to have a completed page once a week to show, and over a 6 or 8 week period, the comic story would unfold. We’ll see.
I’d like to give myself the days I’m off to also spend more time planning and prepping my cartoons, see if I can improve them.
Most importantly, it needs to be said that without all of you acting as my accountability group — I would never in a million years have accomplished this one year challenge.
But let me let tonight’s Essential Cartoon do what it was created for.
I wish you all a safe and restful rest of your night.
Until Monday.
Humor abounds.
