Howls to the Night Owls
I hope everyone has had an effervescent day.
It’s funny, but the 1st drafts of my cartoons, the ones I use to initially plan out the cartoon, with dialogue placement and character composition, often tend to look better than the final draft. I’ve read that this is kinda normal. In doing a quick sketch, usually there’s less pencil or pen lines used, and there’s no stress to get anything “right.” Just, sketch sketch sketch and viola, the idea is born. In doing the final cartoon, the perfection bug usually creeps in and, as a result, the the drawing loses that impromptu, improvisational feel.
Well, I’m still learning.
I wanted to thank Lee for all his work keeping the Our Absurd Life website alive and growing. He’s started a 2021 portfolio for the cartoons, which is awesome. If you’ve never checked it out, please go take a look. Lee put a really cool photo of Horseshoe Canyon on the site’s front page. He shared with me the reason he chose that photo, which I will share with you all mañana.
