Hola Night Owls
I hope everyone has had a new-car-bought-off-the-lot kinda day. I actually experienced that only once in my life, and it was pretty energizing.
Not much to say about tonight’s Essential Cartoon, except that I’m trying to expand on my characters’ overall body types.
Speaking of body types, my friend Art — way over there in yonder New York State — asked me about my choice of drawing hands with only 4 fingers. For one thing, hands are an enormous challenge for me, so I’m trying to keep it simpler for myself by drawing less fingers. I actually just pulled out my Animation 1 book by Preston Blair which has a whole page of 4 finger hands. I think I had read in this book that the 4-finger-choice was easier for animators back in the day. Mickey Mouse is a classic example. And some cartoonists still use them today.
But one day I shall graduate to the 5-finger world, so help me Michelangelo.
