Hola Night Owls
I hope everyone has had a wonderful day. Mine was slow going, but I made it. Hooray!
Tonight’s Essential Cartoon came about as a result of scrutinizing some New Yorker magazine cartoons. I had noticed that a few of these professional cartoonists continued their lines through other lines making them appear lazy or sloppy. They also didn’t always keep their color work contained, but let the inks bleed out past boundary lines.
Then I thought, it’s funny, we start off as kids drawing and coloring and not caring about any rules. Then we grow up a little, throw away our wild self, study art so we can draw our lines straighter, and keep our colors in their proper boxes. Then eventually we become accomplished artists and we’re back to breaking the rules, having a blast and riding along with our wild selves. It’s like some circular rite of passage that must be walked.
Oh well. I still would like to keeping learning the rules a while longer since I have lots to still learn.
I wish everyone a restful rest of your evening.
Until tomorrow. . .
Enjoy!

“No rulers were harmed during the making of this cartoon.”
“Let’s still be careful out there.”
