Our Absurd Life: 08/24/20 – Encouragement from Dad

Encouragement from Dad

Hola Night Owls

Thanks to everyone for their responses to my Chrome VS Transfer look.  The votes were almost even.  I will explore going back and forth between the 2 filters.  So thanks again, it was very helpful.

Today’s Essential Cartoon brings back a cartoon series I started around April of 2018.  It’s called “Beware of Beartrap.”  It was this series and these characters that started me on my one cartoon a week back then.  I was photocopying my cartoons at the local library–my favorite place in the world– and then snail mailing them to my mom and dad, sister, a few close friends as well.  I really like this series and have had hopes to get back into a regular routine.  The series stars Blair Trapp, a boy about 14 or 15, who was born with razor sharp teeth.  The bullies, of course, call him Beartrap.  He lives with his mom and dad and his best friend is named Ron.

The general idea of the series is that Blair, with his personal life challenge, is pretty normal, while everyone else around him is somewhat… “A bubble off plumb,” as my friend George might put it.

This is an important cartoon series for me as I like the characters a lot.  This is also another personal challenge for me: to share my artistic vulnerability in drawing characters that have to look the same from panel to panel.  That has always been hard for me and was something I avoided for years.  But the only way to get better at something is to do it.  And that’s the whole point of my daily cartoons.

And to give some comfort and, hopefully, laughter to my friends and family.  As well as myself.

I wish everyone a safe rest of your night.

And until tomorrow. . .

Enjoy!

P.S.

“No rulers were harmed during the making of this cartoon.”

“Let’s still be careful out there.”
